ALOPECIA & CAUSES
Allopathy defines Alopecia as an autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own hair follicles, which leads to hair loss anywhere in the body. It isn't contagious and in any time your hair can regrow on its own. Allopathy has no definite cure for this condition, although there are medications that work for some people.
According to Ayurveda & Siddha medicine, a certain kind of bacteria leads to the hair loss associated with Alopecia. These traditional Indian medicines have also stated several cures for this confidence-busting condition. Anyone from children to elders can suffer from this condition. Early treatment prevents balding and helps regrowth of hair.
Note : In Indian medicine, hair loss from eyelashes is treated as one of the eye diseases.
SYMPTOMS
The common symptoms of Alopecia areata are:
Experiencing hair fall in patches - On the head, beard area or other hairy parts of the body.
Presence of round or oval bald patches at the place of hair loss.
Significant hair loss within a short period of time. At times there is even 50% hair loss.
REMEDIES
Now that you know the symptoms and causes of Alopecia, let's move on to remedies. You can try any one of the following 8 remedies to not only prevent further hair loss, but also regrow hair in already bald spots. Note : For best results, prepare the remedies fresh (unless mentioned otherwise), each time you need it.
Remedy 1 : Make a fine paste of a few peeled garlic cloves and a little honey. You can use a mortar and pestle for this. Apply the resultant paste on the affected part of the head or eye brow. Do this regularly to see your hair growing back. One of my father's colleague used this remedy to cure his alopecia.
Remedy 2 : Make a fine paste of 20 black peppercorns with 1 pearl onion i.e, shallot and a little bit of salt. Apply a thick layer of this paste on the bald spot. After 4 hours wash it off with water. Follow this for 21 days to see great results.
Remedy 3 : The tender leaves of Oleander ('kaner' in Hindi, 'arali' in Tamil) secrete a kind of milk or juice when they are broken. Apply sufficient quantity of this milk on the affected part of the head. Do this daily till you see your hair growing back.
These 3 remedies are the easiest and most effective ones according to Indian medicine books. The others require various herbal ingredients and a lot of patience to prepare.
Note : The ingredients in the following 4 remedies can be bought from herbal or Ayurvedic shops, or sometimes, even regular medical stores sell it.
Remedy 4 : Take equal weight of - wood apple seed, lemon seed, citron seed, wild indigo seed, pomegranate seed and the white inner kernel of mango seed. Grind them with sufficient amount of cow's milk till you get a fine paste. Boil this mixture till it becomes thick. Apply this paste on the affected area, in the morning and wash it off with water in the evening. Do this for 48 days (1 mandala).
Remedy 5 : Rub a croton seed on a grinding stone using a little water or butter, till you get a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area of the head or eye brow. Blisters will appear due to release of toxins from the affected part. Apply enough coconut oil on these blisters, regularly. After these blisters heal, the hair will start growing back.
Remedy 6 : Cut a Bitter Apple fruit / colocynth (also called 'badi indrayan' in Hindi, 'pey-kumatti' in Tamil). Scoop out it's flesh and mash it finely. Apply this mashed paste on the affected area, in the morning and evening.
Remedy 7 : Make a fine paste of elephant tusk, mix it with some honey and apply for 8 days. Elephant tusk may be bought from government emporium.
Remedy 8 : This remedy is an oil, which you can prepare, store and use. The ingredients you will need for making this oil are - 350 gms Sesame oil, 70 gms Rubber bush flowers ('aak' in Hindi, 'vellai erukkam' in Tamil), 70 gms Black pepper, 70 gms Peeled garlic, 7 gms Sweet flag (also called 'vasambu' in Tamil) and 70 gms Betel nul stalk. Lightly mash all the ingredients, except sesame oil. Mix the mashed ingredients with the oil and heat it over a low flame, in a heavy bottom kadhai/pan. When the oil turns red, remove it from the stove, strain it and store it in a dry glass bottle. Apply this oil on the affected area. After 3 hours wash the head with shikakai powder. Do this 3 times in total, with a gap of 4 days between each application. Soon the hair will grow.
Hope these remedies are of use to you. Let me know in the comments which one of these remedies worked for you. Stay healthy. Stay happy. Bye.
