How I relieve my headache easily and quickly, at home, using natural methods.

At times, I suffer from migraine headache, just like most women do. A lot of you might be aware of migraine headaches. For those who don't know, migraine is a severe headache, with a pounding or throbbing sensation in the head. Sometimes the pain is on any one side of the head, whereas at other times the pain can cover the entire head. Most of the times, it hampers our day to day tasks, at times even making it hard to move. I usually manage to get rid of migraine naturally, at home, in just a day. I would like to share the whole experience with you all, as it may come in handy for you, if you suffer from migraine often.
CONTENTS
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of migraine can vary from one person to another. From what I've experienced in different occasions, the common symptoms include -
Nausea / Vomiting sensation
Food cravings
Loss of appetite
Dizziness or sleepy feeling
Tiredness
Pain around the eyes & cheek bones
Increase in pain when moving around or squatting down
In general, these symptoms are much more intense during periods (menstrual cycle) and stressful situations. Women are usually more prone to getting migraine than men.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
A typical migraine headache can last anywhere from a few hours to 3 or 4 days. For me, it usually lasts roughly for one whole day, and it occurs once in every few months. A lot of people may suffer from a migraine every 2-3 weeks, during your periods or they may only suffer from it 1-2 times a year.
WHY DO WE GET MIGRAINE?
From my experience, I commonly suffer from migraine when I -
Have untimely meals very often
Have heavy meals
Don't get enough sleep, or
Am on my periods
Some other causes for migraine may include -
Wrong eating habits
Acidity
Inactivity/ Sedentary lifestyle
Stress
Anxiety
Poor lifestyle choices
Excessive alcohol consumption
Insufficient water intake, etc.
HOW TO RELIEVE IT?
Moving on to remedies, I prefer natural remedies like ayurveda and nature therapy, rather than popping allopathic tablets. This is because, they are in most cases free of any side effects and contraindications. Also, natural remedies treat the underlying health problems rather simply suppressing the symptoms like allopathic medicines do.
Remedy 1 : The first thing I do is lie down with some cold pack i.e, a wet cloth on the forehead. This improves the blood flow in the head area and helps reduce any inflammation that might be there. (Note : Follow remedy 2 if you also have cold symptoms like running nose, etc)
Remedy 2 : In case, I have blocked nose or cold symptoms along with migraine symptoms, then I apply some dry ginger paste on the forehead, instead of a wet pack. To prepare dry ginger paste, rub a dry ginger on a wet stone slab or a rough surface. After rubbing it with few drops of water for a minute or 2 , you'll get a paste. Just apply a thick layer of this paste on the forehead before sleep. By morning your headache should be gone. If pain is still there, then again apply some dry ginger paste on the forehead and leave it on for at least an hour.
DO'S & DON'TS
I strictly follow these do's and don'ts whenever I'm sick, and this includes migraine too.
In our busy modern lifestyle, lack of rest is the common cause of any illness, migraine being the most common one. So, when I get migraine, I take rest for the whole while, till the headache completely disappears (not reduces). If possible, I get some sleep too.
As for diet, I eat nutritious home cooked meals and reduce the amount of food intake. This way the body can spend less time digesting the food and more time healing the body.
I also avoid tea and coffee during this time, as they can actually increase the migraine symptoms significantly. Instead, it is better to drink lemon-ginger tea. You can also drink ginger buttermilk or hot turmeric milk. These alternative drinks to caffeine, can actually reduce inflammation, improve sleep and boost immunity.
I try to replace 1 or 2 of my meals with fruits, fruit juices, soups or steamed/boiled vegetables. Doing this helps our body get enough nutrition needed for healing and our metabolism also improves.
Additionally, drinking lots of water flushes out all the toxins from the body, and hydrate me.
Last but not the least, gently massaging your forehead, temples, ears and neck using three fingers helps soothe the sore areas.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!
Now that I mentioned the remedies for migraine, let me tell you how to prevent them from occurring. To prevent migraines, and even as a general rule, I try to follow a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating balanced meals, staying active, exercising, drinking lots of water and getting at least 7 hrs of sleep daily. I also include hobbies into my days to relieve stress, and try to limit the time I spend on my phone and laptop to avoid strain.
