Have you ever experienced red painful toes or finger, on the skin surrounding your nails. This condition is known as, finger-nail / toe-nail infection. Most of us experience this at least once in our lifetime. People rush to a doctor to get it treated. Sometimes, it may be serious enough to need surgery as well. But in this post, I'll tell you how I cured my finger nail infection at home, naturally without going to the doctor. I'll also tell you it's common symptoms and causes.

A few months back, while trimming my nails, I accidentally cut off some skin next to a nail. It was the middle finger of my right hand. The cut part didn't bleed or anything. But, 2 or 3 days after this incident, the affected nail area started paining. It looked a little swollen and visibly red. At that time, I did not know what a nail infection was, as I hadn't experienced it before. So, I thought it maybe an insect bite. To my disappointment, the swelling, redness and the pain, only increased day after day.

After 3 more days of pain, I couldn't tolerate the pain anymore. My nail started becoming crooked too. So I finally decided to let my parents know about it. Who knows, maybe it was serious enough to be consulted with a doctor. When I finally told my parents about my problem, my mother pointed out to me that it was a actually a fingernail infection. She had gotten it in her childhood and had cured it at home.

My mother tried to recollect how she got the infection cured. Meanwhile, my father found some remedies for this condition in some old Ayurvedic medicine books he has. I followed 2 of the remedies told by my parents, one at night and one in the morning. Before I tell you the remedies, let me briefly tell you the symptoms and causes of this painful problem.

CONTENTS

  2. Athlete's foot

  3. Diabetes

  4. Excess toxins in the body

REMEDIES

For best results, follow voth remedies - the 1st one at night and the 2nd one during the day.

  1. Lemon : For the 1st remedy make a hole in a lemon. Insert your infected finger inside it in the night and sleep. Remove it in the morning. The hole made in the lemon should be tight around your finger. This way the lemon won't fall off during sleep.

  2. Aloevera : After taking bath in the morning, apply aloe vera gel or fresh aloe vera flesh on the finger. Keep some cotton around the affected area and tie a bandage to secure it. Keep this on for as long as possible. If the aloe vera dries up, replace it with a fresh one.

* When pain is in excess, mix some turmeric and salt in warm water. Place your infected finger inside it for 5 - 10 mins. This reduces the pain.

While following these remedies, the affected nail area with start swelling and looks wrinkled. No need to worry, though. It happens because the puss in the infection is concentrating in one place. The pain might also increase at times. After following the remedies for 5-7 days the puss will pop out of the infection.

After all the puss comes out, put some turmeric powder or paste on the whole nail area. Tie a bandage around it, so the turmeric does not fall off. Keep it on for as long as possible. the turmeric helps heal the wound. Within a week all the pain will be gone and the finger will shrink to it's normal size. Though, you might notice that the skin around the nail area is still brown. In a few weeks your normal skin colour should also return to normal. Nail deformation (like crooked nail), if any would take around 2 months to become completely normal.

One important thing to remember, the longer you leave the infection untreated, the longer it takes to heal completely. In severe cases, the nail even falls off. It will then take months for the nail to grow back.

That's all for today. I hope this information helped you. Let me know in the comments what you'd like me write about next. See you next time. Stay healthy. Stay happy. Bye.
